Secret Valentine

OMW, after all the drama with this parcel.  I collected it yesterday and I just could not believe all that was in this box of 2kg.  I wept uncontrollably.  The people on the beach are just so generous.  I received the most beautiful parcel from Bethany Adams of the Virgin Islands.  Thank you, thank you can never be enough. I was in awe.  The yumminess just went on  and on.  Every piece was wrapped individually with either Valentine paper or in valentine bags with such beautiful sentiments.  I have been truly blessed.  I very excitedly started unwrapping the carefully packed items and realised that I needed to take a pic and so I did. Will definitely post.

Thank you Bethany - you outdid yourself. I dont know what to say..... Mmmmmwah!

Secret Valentine

I have been involved in the Secret Valentine swap over at the beach and My person to spoil was from Qatar.  I sent  my parcel off Mid January knowing how long our country's postal service will take to send over.

Well I had given up hope of ever receiving mine and Lo and Behold yesterday I get this notification from the Post Office to let me know that I have to pay clearing costs on a Parcel coming from the Virgin Islands (USA) from a Secret Valentine.  I was livid.  Firstly I had to buy the stuff for my valentine and pay postage to get it over and now I had pay duties on my gift.

Just cant understand our system.

Mini swaps

I am involved in so many swaps over at the beach and I hope I will meet the deadlines for all of them. I am exchanging a rak with Janelle from North Carolina and a mini with Rita Hutcheson(Alabama) and Mary Melsheimer from  Wisconsin at the end of Feb,  with Lucy Bourque(Canada) as soon as possible, with Aideen  Fallon - mid April.  Way too busy.  Exchanging handmade flowers, stamped images at the end of this month too.  I am also going to the berg from the 18 - 20 Feb 2011.  How fab is that.  i need to request for myself more days.
Stay sane in the meantime....

My new Haven

Life at the scrap beach

I have found a great forum that never fails to excite me everyday. We are a group of ladies that love to make minis and swap everything. AND, if you need or want something, there is usually someone there who will share it with you. They are loving, sharing artists from all over the globe.

And for fun....we have an ATC swap going on monthly, a 6 X 6 paper and goodies swap monthly, just paper 6X6 swap monthly, handmade flowers monthly. and soon all the mini swaps will start back up. Ohhhh, I forgot the tag swap.

There is also a place to sell or trade your supplies if you want.

It's a great place to be able to come to and relax and chat...lot of that going on!!!lol

And, we also have a virtual crop each month. Haven't been able to get to that yet, but, hope to participate in the next one. They have some really good prizes!!!

Made a lot of wonderful friends on the sand......fun, fun, fun.

I am totally loving it.

Photography course

I have been on a course in Photography with Stella Nova Studio.  Veryyy interesting so there's definitely more to photography than just point and shoot and I learnt NEVER set you camera to the AUTO setting cos apparently that is the idiot mode, HAHAHA.  your camera, most often can handle photos at Program and the Time value and Aperture value is pre-set but in real low light you will have to change your ISO to at least 800 - 1600 but also noting that there is a trade off since at this high ISO your photo will have large grain or photo noise. In natural and standard conditions where the day is bright and sunny an ISO of 100 - 200 will do.  To shoot action pics like sport - you will need a faster shutter speed to capture the caught in action effect, well depending on what you are after......  I am going to practice lots

12 Days to Christmas

Today I wanted to know or rather ask the question - Is Christmas only for Christians???????  I am a Hindu and have celebrated Christmas for as long as I can remember.  I buy Christmas presents for those that I want to spoil, we have new clothes, we have a special Christmas Lunch or Dinner. I always put up a Christmas Tree and decorate it. I have different theme colours every year.  Last year was the deep pink/purple and silver, this year I have decided on Royal blue and silver. My theme this year is also the Xmas Stocking.  I am making a Christmas stocking invite as well. Will post soon. I love Christmas time, actually I dont know who does not.

Ok so we dont go to Church but for us it is a time for togetherness and family.

I have only done a few cards so far. Yes, I know not good.  I have been part of the Card exchange at Letscrap and I posted two cards.  One to Betty Anne Orr in Canada and the other to Karien Van der Westhuizen in Newcastle. Have to still make cards for work.

Have a good week ....

Photography

Being photogenic is about awareness of how to put your best self forward, and knowing how to express your charisma for the camera. These are learned techniques, including applying your knowledge of the best backgrounds, lighting, and positioning for a good photo. In fact, it's not unusual for "Miss Photogenic" to be a different person from "Ms Beauty Queen" in beauty pageants because the photogenic subject has learned how to work the camera best.

5 November 2010

Guy Fawkes ???- ok yes but also DIWALI - this day signifies the symbol of light. Deepavali is a festival where people from all age groups participate. They give expression to their happiness by lighting earthen 'diyas' (lamps), decorating the houses, bursting firecrackers and inviting near and dear ones to their households for partaking in a sumptuous feast. The lighting of lamps is a way of paying obeisance to god for attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace, valor and fame.   On Diwali night, little clay lamps are lit in Hindus homes, but now a days colored electric lamps are also used. What is the significance of lighting a lamp? There is a logical answer to this question. It is through the light that the beauty of this world is revealed or experienced. Most civilizations of the world recognize the importance of light as a gift of God. It has always been a symbol of whatever is positive in our world of experience.

To Hindus, darkness represents ignorance, and light is a metaphor for knowledge. Therefore, lighting a lamp symbolizes the destruction, through knowledge, of all negative forces- wickedness, violence, lust, anger, envy, greed, bigotry, fear, injustice, oppression and suffering, etc.

About ME

I started this hobby by chance and I loved it soooo much that I wanted everyone I knew to get into it and learn. I held classes at home since 3 April 2005. A week later tragedy hit our home but the craft stayed on. I provide classes and products at THE most affordable prices.

My Mission is to get everyone I know interested in starting to preserve their memories in a fun way and make their own cards, the most affordable way.

I started my own scrapbook store and ran it from home. In 2007 I rented a stall at The Stables and thereafter moved to Queensburgh again.

I am loving this my haven. I think of nothing but creativity. I am sure I was born to do this. I also love photography for as long as I know. When I was in school - ok long long time ago - I would wash my dads car so that he would buy me rolls of film to shoot pictures.
